Elizabeth Harrington, Ph.D. - Erik Nelson, Photographer
Elizabeth Harrington's writing career started at age 8, when she tried to copy O’Henry in stories with “surprise” endings. Since then, she's written in three different areas.
- As a Poet, she's published work in journals such as The Hudson Review, Connecticut Review, and The Sun. Her chapbook (Earth's Milk), published in 2007 by Main Street Rag, was first runner-up in the publisher's chapbook contest. She recently published a poetry book review in the Vineyard Gazette, (Martha's Vineyard).
- As a Ph.D. in Developmental Psychology, she wrote and published academic articles on the development of children’s memory and cognition, and was a contributing author to a book on that topic (K. Nelson, Ed., Event Knowledge: Structure and Function in Development, Hillsdale, N.J.: Erlbaum, 1986). She is a licensed Psychologist.
- As a Market Researcher/Moderator, she's written hundreds of market research reports and presentations in the last 20 years, the last 15 as Vice President at WSM. She conducts focus groups and psychologically probing, in-depth interviews with those who suffer from anxiety, depression, infertility, and other psychologically-related issues. She attended courses and workshops at the Institute for Modern Psychoanalysis (IMP).
In addition to writing for Suite101 and working freelance as a moderator in market research, Elizabeth is the NY Mental Health Examiner. Originally from Oklahoma, she moved to New York years ago, and currently lives in Tarrytown, New York. Follow Elizabeth on Twitter.
